Just letting yourself fall. Easier said than done. Five dancers build safety zones out of two large floor mattresses in which they feel protected. There, for once, they allow themselves to be blown away by expectations, stereotypes and societal standards. They share strategies with one another and give us an intimate peek into five different realities, into their battles and into their power distribution.

Titanic II begins where the movie ended: at the bottom of the ocean. So, sand is needed. The search for it leads to a concrete factory that mines sand. Every year, humans exhaust double the amount of sand that every river combined can reproduce. Sand is formed for thousands of years, yet turned into concrete within 90 minutes – that’s exactly as long as this production takes.

In a photograph from 1906, a crowd in Rwanda gathers for a magical event in front of a small camera on a table, with a German colonial officer behind it. The machine soaks up the sound waves and carves the music of the surrounding musicians into the wax cylinder. How does the process of playing sound make us what we are? In the German-Burundian co-production Merge the performers become sound carriers and the stage is transformed into a negotiation room full of sound waves.
