Ein Blick in die Vergangenheit kann Impulse für neue Denk-und Handlungsräume geben –über fast vergessene, doch einst große Visionen: Die ‘Blockfreie Bewegung‘ war ein solches, utopisches Projekt. Sie suchte nach einem alternativen Weg jenseits der Machtblöcke. Nach dem Bruch mit Stalin 1948 schlug das sozialistische Jugoslawien unter Tito einen eigenständigen Kurs ein und wurde zum Unterstützer antikolonialer Befreiungsbewegungen. Gemeinsam mit Titos Kameramann Stevan Labudović sichtete die Regisseurin Mila Turajlić die umfangreichen Filmarchive der jugoslawischen Wochenschau. Als Live-VJ (kurz für ‚Videojockey‘) verarbeitet sie nun das historische Material in einem Bilderstrom, der Raum für gemeinsames Nachdenken darüber eröffnet, wie internationale Verständigung heute gelingen kann.

Hinweis: Non-aligned Newsreels ist ein dreiteiliges Projekt im Rahmen des SPIELART Festivals München, bestehend aus der Installation Voices from the Debris (18.10.-01.11.im FLORIDA Lothringer 13), der Performance Fragments from the Debris (18.10. im HochX Theater und Live Art) und dem Screening des Diptychons Scenes from, the Labudović Reels, das die beiden Dokumentarfilme Non-aligned und Ciné-Guerrillas beinhaltet (Screening am 20.10. im Theatiner Filmtheater, Q&A mit der Regisseurin).

A glance into the past may yield knew impulse for thought and action –about almost forgotten yet once grand visions: the ‘Non-Aligned Movement‘ was such a utopian project. It looked for an alternative way beyond the power blocs and put the idea of global solidarity above geopolitical affiliations. Following the Soviet-Yugoslav Split in 1948, socialist Yugoslavia under Tito began following an autonomous course and became a supporter of anti-colonial liberation movements in countries such as India, Egypt, or Algeria. Yugoslavia employed film as a mediumto create visibility for their causes. Together with Tito’s camera operator Stevan Labudović, director Mila Turajlić sifted through the extensive film archives of the weekly Yugoslav newsreels. As a live VJ (short for ‘video jockey‘), she now reworks the historic material into a stream of images that opens a space for collective contemplation about how international communication and understanding might succeed today.
